I created this event to help train and celebrate running the Glass Slipper Challenge at Walt Disney World as part of Disney's Princess Half Marathon weekend. The Glass Slipper Challenge is a 10K on Saturday followed by a half marathon on Sunday. To help encourage me and my Princess friends and for those who are not making it to Walt Disney World for the Glass Slipper Challenge but still want to be a part of the action, I thought up the "Earning My Glass Slipper" virtual run. There are two options, either the 1.93 mile training run or the 19.3 accumulative run. You can do the challenge at anytime, anywhere. The medal are the same, except for the laser engraved distance. The are a 2" color die cast custom medal. The cost for the race is $19.30, one dollar for each mile I will be running for Give Kids The World, and that includes shipping. You can chose you medal below. I have included some info about GKTW and their mission. Please check out my fundraising page as well.

I am running as part of the Run GKTW Team. My goal is to raise $3,000 for Give Kids The World, a non-profit that exists solely to fulfill the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses and their families. These deserving families are treated to week long fantasy vacations to Central Florida where accommodations, attraction tickets, entertainment, meals and more are all provided at no cost.
Give Kids The World has been awarded a four-star rating for sound fiscal management for eight consecutive years by Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent evaluator of charities. In 2010, GKTW was recognized as the #1 most fiscally responsible charity by Worth Magazine, and MSN Money named GKTW the Highest Rated Charity in America in 2012. Give Kids The World’s commitment to accountability and transparency assures supporters that their donation is used in the most responsible and efficient way possible.
Since its founding in 1986, Give Kids The World has welcomed more than 125,000 families from all 50 states and more than 70 countries. In 2012, the Village served 7,337 families—the highest number in the organization’s 27 year history. During my trip to Orlando, I will have the opportunity to visit Give Kids The World Village and see the impact of your donations first-hand. I hope you will consider sponsoring me for this very worthwhile cause.

Hi - I have a question about this! I'm a beginner runner who's now up to 4.5-5.5 miles at a time and hope to be at half-marathon capability by next spring, and all of this is very exciting! But on this one - what't the timeframe that we do the run in, and how and where do we post it, so that we have earned our medal? Or is it honor system and we just get the medal regardless, if that is the case when are you planning to send them out? I want to see how much time I have to do my 19.3! Thanks!

Hi Valerie. I don't require you to record you mileage with me. You will know if you have earned it and I think that is enough, plus, how could I ever verify it. For time frame, I suggest a week to get the 19.3 miles in. You can always set your own goal with it and try to get it done in less time or give yourself more time if you need it.

Hi,
I'm loving this idea. What a great medal and for a great cause. Did you design this yourself? If so, you are so creative!

Thank you! I came up with the idea of what I wanted then I had the medal company do the final design for me. This is the third time I have worked with them and they are great! I can wait to see the medals in person.

CRAP! It looks like on my PayPal receipt it is showing the 1.93 distance now. I want it to be the 19.3. Can you fix this for me please?

Call me stupid, but I'm not understanding how this works....I understand the donation part, but do we just run our 19.3 at our own pace and as long as it takes to accumulate the distance? Is there a time frame which it needs to be completed and done on a certain day or week? Feeling very silly, but new to all of this.

Lisa, these types of races are just for fun. You can run it wherever you want. Being that 19.3 is a longer distance I do not want to put a time frame on it and make people go further than they are comfortable with. I would recommend most people do it over a week time frame. There is no requirement to post your time anywhere. If you would like you can join the event page on Facebook.

Ran Tink in 2012 and loved the Disney run experience. Rehabilitating a knee issue so I have not run in a long time. This is the perfect motivation to get me back out there!

Is there a time frame to run the 19.3 miles in. Do we post our miles somewhere? Love the bling, as I'm a bling junkie! I guess I should have asked before I registered. LOL

This will be my first "virtual run" and I am registered for the glass slipper challenge in Orlando and the Tinkerbell in Anaheim for the new C2C medal! Once registered with you Amanda, how long before we can expect to get our medal from you? I am assuming it will be after July 31st when you get your final numbers. Just curious to know when will I get to hang that baby up on my medal rack?!?!?! Thanks in advance, and God Bless your heart to do this! :)

Hey Amanda,
I'm sorry for being a pest ,but I need to know when I can receive
my 2nd Medal. I Ordered 2 but have only received 1.
My Invoice numbers are;

2. 22R54845011252238 ( I have NOT received this one )
Can You please rectify this as soon as possible?
I enjoyed doing this run and am anxious to receive the second as I have a "Fitness and Running" Student who ran with Me and awaiting Her Award.
Thank You SO much for Your help.
Sincerely,
Marsha Thompson

Hello Amanda! I just discovered this post through a Google search. What a terrific idea! I'm disappointed I missed out on the fun! I've been considering starting a virtual run to benefit our local animal shelter. What medal company did you use? The medals you designed for this are darling! Thanks for your help!

My name is Amanda, I am a runner and a full time student. I started this blog to share my experiences training for and running races as well as coordinating virtual races. I hope to use my blog and races to inspire others to get out there and run. In March 2013 I started my first "virtual" 5K and plan to host many more in the coming months. I want this to be a fun, safe place to share and inspire. The name of my blog was inspired by the fact that even when I am out running alone, I know I am not on my own. I have my online running buddies, husband, family and friends with me at all times.
