I created this event to help train and celebrate running the Glass Slipper Challenge at Walt Disney World as part of Disney's Princess Half Marathon weekend. The Glass Slipper Challenge is a 10K on Saturday followed by a half marathon on Sunday. To help encourage me and my Princess friends and for those who are not making it to Walt Disney World for the Glass Slipper Challenge but still want to be a part of the action, I thought up the "Earning My Glass Slipper" virtual run. There are two options, either the 1.93 mile training run or the 19.3 accumulative run. You can do the challenge at anytime, anywhere. The medal are the same, except for the laser engraved distance. The are a 2" color die cast custom medal. The cost for the race is $19.30, one dollar for each mile I will be running for Give Kids The World, and that includes shipping. You can chose you medal below. I have included some info about GKTW and their mission. Please check out my fundraising page as well.

I am running as part of the Run GKTW Team. My goal is to raise $3,000 for Give Kids The World, a non-profit that exists solely to fulfill the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses and their families. These deserving families are treated to week long fantasy vacations to Central Florida where accommodations, attraction tickets, entertainment, meals and more are all provided at no cost.
Give Kids The World has been awarded a four-star rating for sound fiscal management for eight consecutive years by Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent evaluator of charities. In 2010, GKTW was recognized as the #1 most fiscally responsible charity by Worth Magazine, and MSN Money named GKTW the Highest Rated Charity in America in 2012. Give Kids The World’s commitment to accountability and transparency assures supporters that their donation is used in the most responsible and efficient way possible.
Since its founding in 1986, Give Kids The World has welcomed more than 125,000 families from all 50 states and more than 70 countries. In 2012, the Village served 7,337 families—the highest number in the organization’s 27 year history. During my trip to Orlando, I will have the opportunity to visit Give Kids The World Village and see the impact of your donations first-hand. I hope you will consider sponsoring me for this very worthwhile cause.

Friday was hard. Really hard. Like, I almost cried hard. Okay, that's not fair to say. The workout itself was not that hard. It was the accumulation of the week's workouts. Saturday I was just too sore and tired to do anything. :( So instead of one rest day this weekend I had two. Honestly, I needed it. I am loving Insanity and want to follow it as much as I can but I also need to listen to my body. I wasn't before and that is how I ended up inuring my knee.
Today was another day I didn't want to workout. But today was not soreness, just laziness. So I got myself up and made myself do today's workout. I did take a few long breaks but I didn't quit.
As far as progress, I have not taken measurements yet, I will next week, but my weight was down 0.4 pounds from last Monday. I can see some changes already and I am getting more flexible everyday.
I do think I need to make a note of which DVDs have a lot of jumping so I can tape my knee for those, at least for a few more weeks. It still feels just a little weak.
And tonight I decided not to wear shoes. I only have running shoes and things just didn't feel right. Barefoot was surprisingly comfortable! I may have to try minimalist shoes.

Honey Stinger was kind enough to send me some samples. They sent me more than enough to try and give some away! Honey Stinger Waffles are may favorite race fuel. While running 13.1 miles I tend to need more than just a boost. I get HUNGRY! I need something in my stomach. The waffles are perfect because they are easy to eat, easy to carry and fill me up just enough. I have never tried any other Honey Stinger products however. Well, I now have no excuse! They sent three kinds of gels, Organic Vanilla, Organic Fruit Smoothie, and Organic Acai Pomegranate as well as two flavors of bars, Dark Chocolate Mocha Cherry Pro and Blueberry Buzz. those bars sound so yummy I am tempted to eat them now! If you would like to try these great products out all you have to do is enter below. One random person will be named the winner next Saturday. Everyone gets one free entry and you can earn more. I don't have any long runs planed so I will be saving the gels for a few weeks but I will try the bars soon and let you know what I think of them soon!

Yesterday was Cardio Power and Resistance and today was Cardio Recovery. When I woke up yesterday I was sore all over so I know this program is doing something for me. I really did not want to do anything but I forced myself and of course I am glad I did. I really like Cardio Power and Resistance. Lots of running in place, high knees, log jumps, power jumps and of course some resistance with things like push-ups and tricep dips. The good news is I didn't feel like I was dying. My knee was a little sore from Monday and Tuesday's workouts so I used KT Tape on it for a little extra support. It felt great an and I had very little soreness today. Today's Insanity workout was Cardio Recovery and was a nice easy workout. At least compared to the other three workouts it is nice and easy! There were many moves I recognized from yoga incorporated with squats, lunges and planks. My legs are very sore from this week and I am glad I own The Stick to workout the knots in my calves. As far as the workouts, the are challenging. Even though the last two were easier than the first two there were still a few things I could not complete. I just push through and do as much as I can though and know I am getting better every day. I realized that four days in a row is longer than I have followed a DVD program before so no reason to break my streak now!

First of all, I had no intention of reviewing these. Someone in my online running group posted about a free sample that was available and I ordered them. I received an email today saying they were on their way and when I checked the mall this afternoon there they were! The email said they were great warmed up in the microwave so I popped the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough in for 30 seconds. That may have been a bit to long. The bar kind of expanded and I had to use a fork to get it off the plate. But it was so good! It was like a piece of cake. It was the perfect afternoon treat. The one I ate today has 21 grams of protein and 190 calories. Usually these kinds of things don't keep me full. This bar kept me felling satisfied all afternoon. I am ordering more of them now. I start back to school next week and these will be perfect for me to eat in-between my morning class and afternoon class when I don't have time to come home to eat but need a meal on the go. They will be a much better option than the fast food offered on campus. Go ahead and check out their website and Facebook page.

Once again a very challenging workout. The warm up was pretty long, about 15 minutes. I was not expecting that. So warm-up, stretch, workout, stretch. Total the workout is about 45 minutes. What I like about these videos is they show the people doing the workouts getting tired and they put up prompts saying to take a break if you need to. Most of the time when I start a video workout program I get frustrated that I cannot do as many reps or go for as long as they trainer. Insanity is a difficult workout. The point of me doing it is to get into better shape and hopefully by the end I will be able to make it through an entire workout. There are about 8 sets of exercises that this DVD goes through. After about 3 I was exhausted. I did take breaks where I needed to and modified where I felt it was best for me. I also skipped some of the last set. Two exercises I modified were power squats and push-ups. No way I could do the power squats so I just did regular squats. I have very little upper body strength so push-ups are very difficult for me. I did them on my knees then when that got hard I did them agents a wall. And today, I am so sore! Yes, I modified and skipped some, but I worked hard and I can feel it! That is what needs to be taken away from any program. If you give YOUR 100% you will improve. The people in the video were all going at different speeds and some were taking breaks as well. Maybe you can do more than me, maybe less, but if you do everything that you can, that is all that matters.

I had a very long and trying day today so I didn't get around to starting the fit test until around 8:30 tonight. I just finished. My face is bright red, I cant believe how much I am sweating and I feel like puking. If you don't know, for the fit test you do eight exercises, each for one minute with a break between each one. Maybe it was the long day or the fact that I am just out of shape but I got winded during the warm up. It also didn't help that there is a lot of jumping in this program and I have downstairs neighbors that I worry about bothering so I think I could have done a few more of some of the exercises. So my numbers for the first fit test:
Switch Kicks: 74
Power Jacks: 33
Power Knees: 62
Power Jumps: 27
Globe Jumps: 6
Suicide Jumps: 9
Push-up Jacks: 10
Low Plank Oblique: 17

This morning I also weighed myself and took measurements.
Weight: 187.6
Neck: 12.75
Waist: 33
hips: 43.5
Arms: 13.75
Thighs: 26

I also took "before"  photos but I am not going to share those just yet. I think putting my weight out there for the world to see is enough for one day. :)

This is just a quick shout out to Muffins to Marathons, Fit 4 Life Race Series and Jim Parker. Jim held a little contest to give away $50 to charity. I won so I get to chose the charity. Hopefully I will be signing up with Give Kids the World to run the Princess Half marathon in February so this $50 is a great unofficial start to my fundraising efforts. Check out their programs and virtual races and challenges at their websites.http://www.muffinstomarathons.com/index.php

Tomorrow morning I will begin the 63 day program Insanity. This is something I have been wanting to try for a while and the timing just feels right. Along with my start back into running which I hope I will be doing in the next few weeks, I am going to be posting my progress with Insanity here. What convinced me to take the leap to try it is seeing people I know and people on fitness forums having success with the program. It is always nice to see people who are not being paid share their stories. BeachBody has a great following so I am excited to begin this program. Tomorrow morning will be my first fit test. I know this program will be a challenge, but that is what I am looking for. I will post tomorrow about my first day. I plan on being honest and open about my weight, measurements, how I am eating and how the workouts are going for me. I want to use this blog to show how an average person does with the program. Tomorrow I will be sharing my measurements and I will be uploading before and after pictures every two weeks. If you would like to check out Insanity or other BeachBody you can at their website. http://www.beachbody.com/

*Note:I am not receiving anything from BeachBody for my review of Insanity. The program was purchased by me for the purpose of exercise. All reviews are my own opinions of the product.

My name is Amanda, I am a runner and a full time student. I started this blog to share my experiences training for and running races as well as coordinating virtual races. I hope to use my blog and races to inspire others to get out there and run. In March 2013 I started my first "virtual" 5K and plan to host many more in the coming months. I want this to be a fun, safe place to share and inspire. The name of my blog was inspired by the fact that even when I am out running alone, I know I am not on my own. I have my online running buddies, husband, family and friends with me at all times.
